What better place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than right in the heart of Ireland where the holiday originated? Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Festival is weeklong and ends with a massive St. Patrick’s Day parade on the actual day. The festival has fun for people of all ages, including concerts, family events, film premieres, and more. And don’t forget to pour yourself a pint of Guinness while you’re there!

If you haven’t been to Chicago for St. Patrick’s Day and witnessed the Chicago River turn green before, then you better add it to your bucket list! The city of Chicago pours 45 kg of green dye into the river about an hour and a half before they begin their annual parade throughout the city. It is something that the whole town looks forward to and if you haven’t seen it before then you should make sure to see it at least once in your lifetime!

Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City also has an annual St. Patrick’s Day parade that goes through their city, but they are unique in the fact that the winner of the best parade float gets two airplane tickets to Ireland! Due to this hot commodity prize, people go to extremes to compete for the best parade float. The parade is led by the “Lone Bagpiper” and at the end of the parade everyone heads to the district of Westport to drink some good old-fashioned pints of beer. If you’re not legal, however, don’t be bummed because we still have some good news for you! Godfather’s Pizza has several locations in the area so stop on in to enjoy some pizza or Pot O’ Gold Monkey Bread! Check out our store locator to find the store closest to you.

New York City

Since 1762 the residents of New York City have been holding official celebrations throughout the city to celebrate this holiday.  Their parade goes along Fifth Avenue and is comprised of more than 150,000 marchers and 1 million spectators. Be sure to wear green though if you’re planning on attending the celebrations: its tradition to pinch anyone who isn’t wearing the color of the day!

Boston has a very strong Irish background because when the Irish were immigrating to America, Boston was the closest port and thus became a popular city for them to come in to. Their parade is the world’s first recorded St. Patrick’s Day parade, starting in 1737, and continuing to this day. The parade consists of bagpipers, marching bands, Irish musicians, and more. Boston loves to show their Irish heritage on this day and they do a spectacular job of it!
