Employee Spotlight: Jack Gano

Our next employee spotlight is on Jack Gano, VP Franchise Services at Godfather's Pizza, Inc.

Name: Jack Gano

Title: VP Franchise Services

Employee Since: Franchisee since 1977 and employee with Godfather’s Pizza corporate since October 2009

Where’d you grow up?
I grew up in small farming communities in northwest Iowa.  My father was a farmer who rented all of his life so we moved a lot.  He never wanted to take a risk by buying his own farm.  This was a valuable lesson for me.  Sometimes, you just have to take that first step.  I feel my work ethic came from all of those years working on the farm.

When did you first know you wanted to work in this field?
I knew I wanted to become a Godfather’s Pizza franchisee when I tasted the product for the first time in 1976 in Cherokee, Iowa.  I was looking for a competitors franchise at the time, but when I tasted Godfather’s Pizza, I was hooked.

Tell us about your daily responsibilities at GPI.
I feel I am blessed with the opportunity to be able to continue my association with fellow franchisees from the years prior.  I take my position very seriously in assisting franchisees in any way possible, whether it may be with product, operations or sharing marketing ideas.  Nothing excites me more than being able to assist our franchisees, especially if an idea really works for them.  Franchisees are our life blood.  I know how important it is for them to be successful and remain that way.

What are some life lessons you’ve learned from working for Godfather’s Pizza?
Be respectful, courteous, passionate, caring, humble and honest.  Be willing to serve your fellow man, whoever they may be.  Never ask an employee to do a job you wouldn’t do yourself.  Trust all people until they might prove you wrong and do not gossip about your fellow man.

Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?
I was raised on a farm for 18 years so I've had enough of animals.

What are your hobbies?
I do enjoy trying to golf once in a while but prefer to work at home in my yard.

What is the last movie you saw?
Lone Survivor.  God bless our military.

What is your favorite game (cards, board, video, etc)?
Never really into games.

Favorite Godfather’s Pizza memory:
My first five years as a franchisee.  The excitement of being involved with such a fast growing organization and watching the reactions of customers when they tried their first bite of Godfather’s Pizza.  Being a multi-unit operator, the pride established amongst my management team.  Mainly due to my management team, winning back to back awards for highest increases in sales.

Favorite Godfather’s Pizza pizza:
An All-Meat Combo on original crust and a simple thin crust pepperoni with extra cheese.

Any final words?
There is nobody’s pizza like Godfather’s Pizza when it is serviced to spec.  Stay true to our heritage and continue to serve the product that brought us to the dance.  Our name stands for abundant quality toppings, instill those standards in your employees.  Create a fun atmosphere for your employees and in turn they will do the same for your customers which correlates to great service.  It is hard to become successful when you're not working your stores every day assisting your employees and speaking with the customers.  The more time you put into your store, the more benefits you will reap.
