Franchisee Spotlight: Kristina Denfeld
Our second employee spotlight is on Kristina Denfeld, Director of Marketing and Administration for five Godfather's Pizza franchisee locations.
What is your title at Godfather’s Pizza?
Director of Marketing and Administration for Pacific Pizza Company DBA Godfather’s Pizza
How long have you been an employee?
When I graduated from college in 2006, I started part time which eventually turned to full time. I have been here ever since and never want to leave the company.
Where’d you grow up?
I was born in Omaha but moved to Portland, OR when I was 6 months old. Aside from a year in Corvallis, Oregon and three years in Omaha for college, again, I’ve been here ever since.
When did you first know you wanted to work in this field?
It’s not so much about the “field”, although I really enjoy the daily tasks, but about working for a family business with my father and brother.
Tell us about your daily responsibilities at Godfather’s Pizza.
My weekly responsibilities at Godfather’s include coordinating weekly manager meetings, making marketing and advertising decisions, confirming accuracy of weekly paperwork, entering accounts payable, etc.
What are some life lessons you’ve learned from working for Godfather’s Pizza?
I have learned so much about business and furthermore, about entrepreneurship – what it takes to own a franchise. Since I work with my family, I may see more than I would have working for an independent company. I learn how this coupon drives sales and how this menu price effects transactions and how the lease on this building gets negotiated. I have been a guest at several meetings that expand far greater than the topics of marketing or admin work.
It’s also amazing to learn firsthand how global this business is. For example, just in the past month, with cheese prices being so high due to the demand in China is an eye opener.
Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?
I’m a gigantic animal lover (hence the vegetarian lifestyle), but cats especially hold a soft spot in my heart. I have two kittens – 18 month old Charlie and my recent addition (a gift for my 30th birthday) 6 month old Gus. I’m totally in love with them!
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
Traveling! I definitely take full advantage of my vacation days and have a full bucket list printed out. During spare time, I research different trips I’d like to take and figure out all the details for future reference. Aside from that, I really enjoy being in the kitchen and I went to Le Cordon Bleu in Portland for a diploma in baking and pastries.
What’s your favorite Godfather’s Pizza memory?
A favorite memory for me was during my first start with Godfather’s when I was 14 years old. Each summer, we were involved with a festival called “The Taste of Beaverton” (it’s a suburb of Portland). I would work there for three days during the summer from age 14-18 serving $3 pizza slices. That’s where I first memorized what’s on the Classic Combo pizza because I rattled it off every third order.
Do you have a favorite movie/book?
Not really a favorite. I enjoy those that involve interesting locations – gives me more ideas for travel planning.
Tell us which pizza is your favorite Godfather’s Pizza pizza:
I’ve been a vegetarian since 2009 so every meatless pizza we come out with, I love (Super Veggie was awesome!), but at the end of the day, I stand by the old classic – cheese pizza with extra sauce.
Do you have any final words?
I really enjoy my involvement with Godfather’s Pizza. Everyone at corporate that I speak with is always so friendly and helpful. I am a lucky person in the fact that there’s never a Sunday night that I’m dreading waking up for work the following morning!
